Lined Paper assumes a sculptural presence and transforms a piece of paper into a tridimensional object. The painting represents a sheet of ruled paper, which is a mundane and common object always present in offices and workplaces. The artist found the idea of painting a piece of paper amusing and the process of focusing on something so mundane satisfying. The style of the painting contributes to the idea of a grotesque universe that the artist has created, influenced by David Cronenberg’s science fiction films and the work of writers such as JG Ballard and Brett Easton Ellis.
