Laborious ice, an oil and beeswax painting on linen, draws inspiration directly from the contents of the artist's friend's freezer. Fuller was intrigued by the meticulous process of hand-cutting each ice cube into uniform blocks using a saw. The choice of such a labour-intensive task for a substance destined to dissolve rapidly captured her interest. Moreover, Fuller observed that the ritualistic nature, along with the time and effort invested in the manual ice-cutting process, could be considered therapeutic. This work is also an observation of routine, a central component of work culture. The ice tray reflects the grid pattern Fuller has been working on in many works for this exhibition.
