In this underwater scene, a woman swims mermaid-like alongside a ghostly form of a dog, whose exaggeratedly large paws echo the forms of seaweed fronds. Emerging from an unseen vanishing point at the top of the canvas, this composition in blue is a meditation on the eternal cycles of life and death, originally prompted by the death of a beloved pet. As a testament to the determined and committed nature of her creative practice, this work is created on materials she had to hand in her home; namely a flowered bed sheet.
