A convoluted field of sulci, painted as sharply folded forms, maps a mental maze that draws the eye towards a dark vortex. These psychological fissures suggest a path through confusion into the unknown or dreamscape.

Mist uses allegory and historical events to engage with modern clichés, cultural events and topical stories using her paintings to function as an x-ray of experiences allowing us to examine our innermost fears and desires. She depicts her figures in these uncanny dreamlike states and environments to play with boundaries of dream and actuality; fantasy and memory; nightmare and normality. Mist states: “Fundamentally, my paintings are attempts to capture today's dystopia into a work that is both unsettling and familiar, prompting an audience to reflect on their own complexities of contemporary life."

This work forms part of a series of Mind Maze paintings and is painted on linen with oils.
