This small work flips perception as it turns the eye to look down on the cropped crotch area caught in a vulnerable act of undressing. The revealed triangle of knicker fabric with its humorous Friday logo, and fleshy pink paint renders the image ultra-feminine, but we are left questioning whether this is a caught sexual moment or if the woman has merely unzipped the denim skirt herself after eating.

Tomlinson's paintings are layers of personal meaning and cultural or art historical references, which invite multiple readings. Her paintings put the physicality of paint and surface in service to her message about the power structures within relationships, and, because they arise from a deeply personal experience the artist admits she often feels vulnerable and exposed during the making. However, she believes that the experience of painting helps her reflect and process so can be cathartic.

This smallest of the paintings in the exhibition is oil paint and pastel on panel.
