Brooke Benington and Canary Wharf are pleased to present On the Other Hand an exhibition of sculpture that reasserts the liveliness of ordinary things.

We have invited 15 contemporary artists who are exploring notions of revival and value and who are giving new purpose and vitality to existing or everyday objects.

Each of the artists brings their own distinct vision and interpretation, several also drawing inspiration from the history of the Isle of Dogs and Dockland area. For his new vitrine sculpture, A Bend in the Thames, Simon Linington has sourced material from local building projects and from along the Thames, Amy Stephens has responded to the iconic architecture of One Canada Square and Yeni Mao has dedicated his sculpture to the diasporic communities that came or were brought to London.

Through each of these artworks, we explore ideas of human impact and urban development, the built and natural environment, responsibility and adaptiveness, improvisation, invention, and intervention. Looking and finding beauty in the everyday.
